The Cross of Caravaca is a double-cross-barred crucifx on which the figure of Jesus is flanked by two winged angels who kneel in postures of prayer. The arms of the saviour are nailed to the upper cross-bar, and the supplementary cross-bar projects widely to the sides.
The Cross of Caravaca is said to be a powerful amulet believed to ward off evil and increase good fortune. and is said to impart a deep feeling of tranquility. To attract good fortune and for the feeling of inner peace which the cross is supposed to impart.
People say that the Caravaca Cross (housed in Caravaca in, Murcia, southern Spain) is the ‘true’ cross on which Jesus perished. Certainly it is true that in 1942, the Vatican gifted three pieces of what they perceived to be the ‘real cross’ to the small town of Caravaca.
Cross Of Caravaca Prayer: "Holy Cross of Caravaca, I take refuge under your mighty power so that your force distances from my life any wrong or illness that may trouble me and retire the pains that afflict me. Oh, Heavenly Cross, for the power of the good, liberate me from all wrong. Incline the Lord to hear my plea, with which I implore love and understanding for my health. Guide me, Holy Cross of Caravaca, in the traffic of my terrestrial life and illuminate me. Preserve me in the most dangerous moments of my life, mainly when my health is precarious. I beg you, blessed Cross, that your support come into to my life and I be well in order to continue maintaining my willpower and my health. AMEN.”
The horseshoe, because of its crescent shape, has the ability to ward off the evil eye. This crescent shape represented the various moon goddesses, which were signs of protection, good luck, fertility and could protect against a curse from the evil eye.
One legend says that horseshoes are lucky because they were traditionally made of iron. Mischievous fairies could not stand the touch of iron, so they shied away from houses that were adorned with it.
Another legend attributes lucky horseshoes to Saint Dunstan, a historical figure who died in 988 AD. According to the legend, Dunstan, who was a blacksmith, was commanded by the devil to shoe his horse. Instead, Dunstan nailed a horseshoe to the devil's foot and refused to remove it and ease the devil's pain until he received a guarantee that the devil would stay away from any house with a horseshoe on the door. Thus, any house with a horseshoe was guaranteed to be lucky.
Good luck is also attributed to horseshoes because being a blacksmith was considered a lucky trade. Additionally, iron was deemed magical because it could withstand fire.
