Miraculous Mother is standing on a globe, crushing the head of a serpent under her feet. She stands on the globe, like the Queen of heaven and earth. Her feet crush the serpent to proclaim that Satan and all his supporters have no power over her. The year 1830 that appears on the Miraculous Medal is the year that the Blessed Virgin gave the design of the Medal to Saint Catherine Labouré. The reference to Mary conceived without sin manifests the dogma of the Immaculate Conception of Mary - not to be confused with the virgin birth of Jesus and that refers to Mary without sin, "full of grace" and "blessed among all women" (Luke 1:28) - which was proclaimed 24 years later, in 1854.
