Saint Martin De Porres, who would become well come well known for his humility and help of the poor and in hopeless causes. He is often depicted affectionately as the ‘Saint of the broom’, because he considered all work to be sacred, no matter how menial. Saint Martin de Porres is a popular Catholic saint born in Peru in 1579. He is considered an example of charity, piety and dedication to the poor and the sick. He is also known for his miracles, including his ability to cure diseases and relieve suffering. St Martin de Porres spent his time working in hospitals and hospices for the most disadvantaged people, never discriminating between races or religions. He became the patron saint of mixed race people, nurses, hairdressers and vets.
